Hygenie now has a ‘Climate Positive Workforce’

At Hygenie we have always tried to be as sustainable as possible. But we realise there is always room to do more.

What is Net Zero?

Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. We reach net zero when the amount we add is no more than the amount taken away.

What is a ‘Climate Positive Workforce’?

Having a ‘Climate Positive Workforce’ means as a business, we are offsetting our workforce’s entire carbon footprint, including emissions from their home, personal travel, holidays, food, hobbies and more.

How is Hygenie doing this?

We’ve become a member of Ecologi, which is a platform for climate action, helping individuals and businesses become ‘Climate Positive’ by funding carbon reduction projects to offset their footprint as well as growing their own virtual forests.

Since 2019, Ecologi has already funded the planting of 20+ million trees, as well as bought and retired more than 650,000 verified tonnes of emissions, through carbon reduction projects.

How’s it going so far?

Having only been an Ecologi member for 1 month, we’ve already achieved the following:

• 190 trees planted – One of the contributing factors to the climate crisis is deforestation. Being a member of Ecologi, we’re able to plant as many trees as we can to help the environment. So far, Hygenie has solely contributed to planting 190 trees. 110 of those being in Reforestation projects in Mozambique, and 80 being in Mangrove planting in Madagascar.
• Offset 13.25 tonnes of CO2e – Another of the major causes of the climate crisis is humanity’s increased use of fossil fuels. Via Ecologi we’re able to offset our use of fossil fuels, and so far we’ve offset 13.25 tonnes of CO2e. This has been through preserving the Amazonian Rainforest in Brazil and generating solar power in India. And just to put it into perspective, 13.25 tonnes of CO2e is equivalent to 10 long haul flights, 40m2 of sea ice saved and 32,873 miles driven in a car.

And this is only the beginning! We can’t wait to see the numbers increase as we continue to be a member of Ecologi and ensure we have a ‘Climate Positive Workforce’.
