A Well Mat is a recess within the floor which is designed to allow a door/entrance mat to be installed so it sits flush with the surrounding floor.

We were recently asked to quote this service for a Care Home group, as their Well Mats were looking worse for wear.
We surveyed all of their 6 sites and recommended new Well Mats but on a ‘lift and lay’ service. This means we exchange their mats regularly on a service schedule, so they’re always kept fresh and clean.
We also suggested they chose darker coloured mats for a better look and to prevent them looking as dirty.

In the British standard bs 8300 It states that at entrances to commercial buildings used by the general public, a suitable entrance flooring system to remove water and debris from the soles of shoes and wheelchair wheels should be provided, taking into account of the volume of pedestrian flow and the distance required to accommodate the circumference of a large wheelchair wheel.
It also states that deep pile carpets and coir matting on the surface of the floor or within a mat well should not be used.
