Men’s hygiene and mental health – Why washroom dignity matters

Breaking the silence around Men’s hygiene and mental health

At the start of 2025, Tork’s study revealed that only one in five men feel comfortable discussing their health at work. That silence comes at a cost — to wellbeing, dignity, and equality.

At Hygenie Washrooms, we believe physical comfort and mental wellbeing are closely linked. Our mission is to create inclusive, sustainable, and caring washroom spaces where everyone can feel safe, respected, and supported.

Hygiene and Dignity Go Hand in Hand

For men managing medical conditions like incontinence or stomas, access to suitable washroom facilities can be life-changing. The lack of male incontinence bins in public and workplace washrooms often forces men into uncomfortable or undignified situations.

That’s why we launched the Male Hygiene Bin Initiative, donating £5 from every bin installed to Orchid – Fighting Male Cancer.

To date, we’ve installed over 100 male hygiene bins nationwide — in football clubs, museums, offices, and public buildings — helping men across the UK dispose with dignity.

The Impact on Men’s Mental Health

A dignified washroom isn’t a luxury — it’s a statement of respect. When businesses provide facilities that meet every user’s needs, they send a powerful message: we care about your wellbeing.

Inclusive facilities help break stigma and encourage men to talk more openly about their health — a small but meaningful step toward better mental health support in workplaces everywhere.
