The importance of providing sanitary units for your premises

Sanitary disposal bins are an unseen item in ladies toilets, however, they matter for practical reasons as well as to comply with legislation.

Once installed, they need to be regularly emptied and the waste disposed of in accordance with waste disposal regulations.

1. Comply with Legislation

All sanitary waste must be disposed of responsibly and all businesses no matter the size must comply with strict legislation.
These laws apply to all market sectors and each employer has a duty of care to protect their employees, visitors and customers by providing sanitary disposal bins in ladies, disabled and unisex toilets.
Legislations governing these procedures are contained in but not limited to:

  • The Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • Section 34 and Duty of Care Regulations, 1991
  • The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, Regulation 21
  • The Water Industries Act 1991

2. Hygiene

Imagine as a female visitor or employee entering a toilet and not having a means to dispose of your sanitary towels and tampons and necessary packaging.

It also shows as a company you care about the Environment and helps to avoid expensive drain clearing bills. Sanitary waste should not be flushed down the toilet as sanitary towels and tampons don’t get dissolved in the water. Flushing the down causes pollution of the water systems and eventually beaches. Seems such a small thing but investing in sanitary disposal bins will contribute towards protecting the environment and allow us to enjoy it for longer.

“Hygiene was recommended by a friend who runs a much larger venue so I was confident that they would be excellent and they have exceeded my expectations. 100% reliable, responsive to our budget constraints and totally professional.

Having a sani‐bin in each toilet cubicle was an easy decision after two emergency plumber visits. Each one cost more than 18 month rental of all the units we need! If only I had listened to Cosette …”

3. Drains & Ambiance

Blockages to drain systems also mean out of order toilets. As a frequent restaurants visitor I can assure you that there is no worse publicity for your business than smelly and out of order toilets. People often recommend restaurants to each other based on the whole experience rather than food. For offices this is important when your visitors need to use your toilets.
